Thanks to its outstanding beauty and idyllic setting Fethiye is considered a gem of Turkey's Mediterranean coast. With an impressively long and interesting history this thriving town was once known as Telmessos to its ancient inhabitants. Today a fort built by the mediaeval Knights of Rhodes is still standing, but far older are the rock tombs carved into nearby cliffs by the Lycians, some dating back as far as the 4th century BC. For visitors to Fethiye there is also a large, busy marina which presents a glamorous playground, a wide and welcoming array of hotels and guest houses, and of course some stunning beaches to bask on. Fethiye is just an hour's travel time from Dalaman Airport which serves this region.
